Window cleaning may seem like a daunting task, however with these tips it’s super simple. It’s a good idea to clean your windows once or twice a year in order to get rid of grime and streaks that can accumulate over the months. It is also important to remember what not to do when cleaning windows, to make sure your windows sparkle and shine. So what should you do to ensure your windows are properly cleaned?

How to clean your windows

It’s good to start by removing dust from your windows and shades with a vacuum cleaner or duster, according to Good Housekeeping.

Curtains can be removed and washed to get rid of excess dirt and achieve the best possible finish on your windows.

Next, spray your windows with a good amount of glass cleaner, or if you prefer you can use a homemade cleaner of white vinegar, water and 70 percent concentration rubbing alcohol.

Use a paper towel or microfibre cloth to clean the window from top to bottom, wiping until the glass is clear and free from streaks.

A different cloth can be used to wipe down window frames to remove dirt and grime.

The same cleaning techniques can be used on outside windows too, to make sure your windows look sparkling clean.

Once the window is dry, the curtains can be put back into place and your windows will look shinier than ever.

Mistakes to avoid when cleaning windows

According to Good Housekeeping, there are some things to be careful of when trying to get your windows as clean as possible.

Try not to clean windows when the weather is too sunny, as the cleaning liquid will dry on the windows before it can be properly wiped off and leave more streaks.

It is also important to use the right equipment to ensure clean windows.

Use plenty of good quality window cleaner and wipe down the windows with a clean cloth to avoid transmitting other dirt and germs.

Using a squeegee is another option, but they tend to work better on bigger windows as they produce a lot of water and can cause a lot of mess if not used correctly.
