Another mistake that many people are guilty of is leaving wires exposed underneath their TVs. Failing to hide these away can make a room look messy.

The fourth tip is an easy every day task but can make all the difference – to get rid of creased bedsheets.

Ironing the wrinkles out of the sheets and making the bed properly can make all the difference to the look of your room.

Finally, Krishnan advised against outdated lighting fixtures and curtains that don’t drape to the floor.

Choosing extra long curtains and hanging them high above your window will give the illusion of more height and therefore more space in the room.

Krishnan advised against patterned bedsheets in your bedroom, saying that bright white sheets are more minimal and modern.

Over the door coat hangers should be avoided according to the student, these can make a space look untidy if overpacked with coats and jackets.

Staying clear of clutter on open shelving units is a must to create a tidy, minimalist space.
